OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA Fresh on the scene, Choiix debut the Air-Through. First Impressions
The box was simple yet attractive, with a cool waxy surface and glossy images it was rather unique. Inside the cooler was braced by a piece of cardboard and wrapped in bubble wrap and a bag.

Besides the cooler they included the cable and a quick start guide. To carry on, first impressions of the cooler were mixed. The design was stunning though the cooler was larger than expected. We immediately set our notebook on it and the Vostro 1500 fit very well. The fan and vent alignment (9Cell battery installed) also aligned very well. We were please to see they included a power button rather than a switch. Furthermore along with the ergonomic angle came the ability for the cooler to be used on soft surfaces.

The Cooling Surface and Cooling System
On the top, Choiix made the right choice by using an aluminum material for the design. A sheet of aluminum is used for the contact between the notebook and the cooler which aids in heat dissipation and keeps the entire surface cool while the cooler is in operation. As stated in our notebook cooler buyer’s guide, heat dissipates far better through aluminum or metal surfaced coolers rather than plastic due to better conductivity.

The bottom (front) section was fitted with a piece of rubber rather than plastic to help the cooler grip to surfaces better. The ventilation hole on the top was a nice size though there was minor flex when pressure was applied but is still stable and easily accommodates the weight of a notebook.

The Airflow of the cooler The fan inside the cooler

The cooling system was well designed for ergonomic purposes. The intakes for the vertically mounted fans are placed on the rear of the cooler. The air is pushed under the arch of the cooler and flows out the large hole on the top.

The noise created by the fans is rather acceptable but we would not consider it silent.

The Sides
On the left Choiix provides an AC adapter port as well as a power button and USB B port. The right side is rather bare. Due to its very silent operation it would have been great if there was a small light indicator showing its power state was included.

The Base and Back
On the base there is a rubber strip near the back. Two more rubber points are located on the front area of the base in order to provide non-slip grip.  On the rear things get more interesting with four USB 2.0 ports. There are two models C-HL02-WP which includes the hub, and the C-HL03-WP which does not include the hub.

Benchmarks
We had the opportunity to test this cooler with both a 15.4” (Vostro 1500) Notebook and a 12.1” (Samsung Q210)

15.4” Test results (Vostro 1500)

Average Idle Temperatures (15.4")
Average Load Temperatures (15.4")

12.1” Test results (Samsung Q210)

Average Hybrid Load/Idle Temperatures (12.1")

Portability
We believe this notebook cooler is a good house-portable unit. Moving the cooler from the desk, to the couch to the bed is fine, though if you would like to carry it around its height may restrict its portability.

Conclusion
With an ergonomic edge, a plethora of ports, and efficient cooling, this notebook cooler has exceeded our expectations. It is a solid option for users who wish to cool their notebook on multiple surfaces and gain some spare ports while being productive.

PS.  This cooler looks great with the aluminum Macbook line.
