CeBIT 2010 Highlights: Peripherals Part I

Posted on 23 March 2010 by Alexander A.T. Rainville

Vancouver We were slated to visit CeBIT this year but instead we’ve ended up in the Olympic City of Vancouver. However we still have some highlights from the exhibition.

For those who do not know what CeBIT is, it is the largest technology exhibition in Europe though it’s no secret that the event has seen fewer exhibitors and visitors recent years. According to welt.de in 2001, roughly 8100 companies participated in the event and there were 850, 000 visitors. This year 4,157 companies showed off their latest and greatest products with considerably fewer visitors.

In this article we will concentrate on the peripherals as well as take a look at the latest SSD.

Tt eSports Official Launch

As the desktop market continues to shrink it is no surprise for others to follow Cooler Master’s lead. In 2008 Cooler Master launched CM Storm, a gaming specific division of the company, and at CeBIT Thermaltake announced the launch of Tt eSports.

Thermaltake will specifically target the gaming market with Tt eSports whilst consumers can expect the same quality and spirit Thermaltake has graced us with since their launch in 1999.

To get the ball rolling Tt eSports released the basic peripherals of any serious gamer: a mouse, keyboard and headset:

Black Series – Black Element

Following the standard for any modern gaming mouse the Black Element has 9 buttons, 4000 DPI and a weight set.

Challenger Series

The Challenger keyboards aim to solve the issue of sweaty palms during those long gaming sessions. An extended cooling fan is fitted to the keyboard to blow cool air over the surface of the keyboard, consequently your hands. The flagship Challenger Ultimate comes with an RBG backlight, 14 programmable macro keys, two spare USB ports for other devices and advanced anti-ghosting. Its anti-ghosting capabilities allow for pressing up to 20 keys simultaneously. Required to store the 70 macro presets and five game presets is a simple 64KB of internal memory.

Shock One headset

The Shock One headset brings DTS 5.1 virtual surround sound to the table. Like the mouse and the keyboard the headset carries on the theme of red LEDs with a glow on each of the ear cups. To complete the headset Tt eSports has hooked it up with an in-line remote and noise-canceling microphone.

Roccat Pyra Mobile Gaming Mouse

With Razer releasing a portable gaming mouse we knew it would be only a matter of time until more brands follow suit. Roccat released the Pyra in November and at CeBIT the Roccat Pyra mobile wireless gaming mouse made its debut. It uses a 1600 dpi motion blue-optic sensor for optimum precision, and a 1000Hz polling rate with 1ms response time to keep it lag and judder free.

The Pyra is the world’s first mouse to feature a EasyShift[+] button and software. This allows the 5 button Pyra to have more functions than an average 10 button mouse since each button can be assigned two functions. The EasyShift[+] button works like shift key on your keyboard, you simply push it while pushing another button.

Cooler Master CMStorm Inferno Gaming Mouse

At around $50 the CM Storm Sentinel Gaming Mouse is a steal, but for those looking to pinch pennies after buying a new 1337 gaming desktop CM Storm has introduced the budget minded CM Storm Inferno. The new CM Storm Inferno mouse has a similar design to the Sentinel without the bells and whistles.

The major features of the Inferno mouse include a 4000 dpi sensor, 60 to 100 IPS tracking speed and programmable keys. Like its older brother the Inferno comes with onboard memory for saving loges and profiles and has a total of 11 dedicated buttons.

One of the differences between the Inferno and the Sentinel is the scroll wheel; the Inferno’s scroll wheel has a wider making and is, thus, easier to rotate and find when in a panic. Furthermore, it will come in two color variations, black and grey. Pricing and availability is still unannounced.

Intendix EEG lets you type with your brain and look like a Water Polo Player

Last but not least, something quite different from the products introduced so far, the Austrian biomedical firm Guger Technologies promoted a new electroencephalography device. This allows users to type with their minds! Yes the future is finally here.

The device is designed for severely disabled patients who suffer severe paralysis. After 10 minutes of training the user can type 5-10 characters per minute by focusing on the individual character on the screen. It also allows users to use voice commands.
