Hardcore...not necessarily a wall adapter, there is a cable that ends on two USB 2.0 that can use power from your pc...which is not included. I got my express card today...works great amd it has better quality than the ACOM one i just returne..but I'll need the extra juice the ACOM had the cable but was missing the 54mm adapter and the quality of the vantec is better...i don't know compared to the kingwin but it's definetely better than the acom data.

Hi Hardcore,

The 5V adapter is if you need some more juice/power for devices. Like if you are running two external hard drives you may need to plug a 5v wall adapter in.

What is the 5V power connection used for? I have a Kingwin card that is very similar to the Vantec, but I don't know what the connector does (the manual does not explain).
